Blog Entry Week 6 - Encanto (Part 2) ~
💖 Encanto Review Part 2 💖
Welcome back to another Encanto Review! Today I shall be covering the rest of our beloved Madrigals in Encanto.

💡 Abuela (Alma) Madrigal 🕯 |
Alma is the matriarch of the Madrigal
family. Her steadfast determination and unwavering hope led her to the magical
Encanto, where she raised triplets Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno. Abuela is known
for being extremely family-oriented, is particular to details, harsh intonations
and words, as well as being very strict and responsible when it comes to her
family and serving the community. She and Mirabel contradict each other throughout
the show, and their conflict is ultimately what causes Casita to collapse. They
make up in the end, and Abuela comes to know that she has held on to her family
members too tightly, therefore giving them space to grow and be their true selves
moving forwards. Abuela values the gifts given to each of her family members,
ensuring that they are used to benefit and protect their community, and to
honor the sacrifice of Abuelo Pedro, her late husband.
| 🎀 Julieta and Agustín 🍬 |
Julieta and Agustín happens to be the
parents of our protagonist: Mirabel, and also to Luisa and Isabela. They are given
characteristics of loving parents who love all their three daughters
unconditionally. The focus is more on Mirabel (as she is the protagonist) and
how they constantly remind Mirabel that she is loved, with a gift or with no gift.
Julieta, one of triplets, was blessed with the power to heal. Radiating warmth
and kindness, her magic is found in the food she lovingly prepares for all who
need it. Meanwhile, Agustín is somewhat a fish out of water, having married
into the magical family. Awkward and accident-prone, he always has the best
intentions, especially when it comes to his daughters.
| ⛅ Pepa and Félix 🌈 |
Pepa and Félix are such wholesome
parents to Dolores, Camilo and Antonio. They are also extremely loving to their
children, as can be seen on little Antonio’s gift-giving ceremony. Pepa, one of
the triplets, was blessed by the magical candle with the power to control the
weather with her emotions. The forecast is often unpredictable, however, as
Pepa’s emotions are far-reaching, ever-changing and quite volatile. Therefore,
throughout the movie we always see some sort of mini cloud over her head, be it
a storm cloud, a small rain cloud, or even the time she was the vortex of a
mini tornado. She learns how to let her feelings and emotions fly with the wind
in the end. Félix, meanwhile, loves Pepa unconditionally. He continuously calms
her down and is always a grounding force for her. He’s easy-going and often the
life of the party.
Bruno Madrigal is the only character in the movie who is painted in a negative light from the very beginning, with the catchphrase “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”, which is also one of the more popular songs from the movie. He is constantly being misunderstood and talked about instead of him explaining. The rest of the family think he left the family and did not care, but in truth, he loves his family, but he didn’t think his gift was of any help. Bruno was blessed with the gift to see the future, through an extensive ritual which he has to perform, requiring a large space, a circle of sand, dried leaves, fire, and salt. He made honest but often doomsaying predictions that proved problematic for Abuela and the rest of the family. The highlight of his visions was of Mirabel, being the key to their family’s fate.
