Blog Entry Week 13

πŸ’§ Digital Marketing πŸ’«

Hey everyone! So recently, I’ve been prompted to write about digital marketing due to one of my assignments. Through the course of getting it done, the field of digital marketing has piqued my interest. Therefore, I have decided to share some of my insights on the field with you :3

πŸ‘¬--- Types of Digital Marketing ---πŸ‘

Digital Marketing encompasses a wide variety of marketing strategies in the digital world to reach all types of audiences. It is also a promotion of brands that can connect to potential customers through digital communication. If any form of marketing uses the internet, and other digital media, it can be classified as digital marketing.

One of the types of digital marketing would have to be Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO helps in ranking websites through search engines such as Google, which would then increase the traffic of a website. Phrases and words typed in the search bar of a search engine platform would be linked to words and phrases in websites, and the website that has the best accuracy to those words and phrases in the search bar would appear first. Therefore, utilizing keywords and placing them in the most strategic avenues in a website would be beneficial to increase search engine traffic. SEO is not as simple as it sounds, as a whole lot goes on behind the scenes, such as Content Indexing and good linking structure.

Pay-per-click (PPP) is also another popular form of digital marketing. Simply put, it involves a lot of paid advertisements to pop up wherever you are searching. You could be searching through the search bar, and the first items in the list may not be entirely what you are looking for, but it will show that it is a promoted advertisement related to one’s search. Or, to utilize another example, one could be shopping online, and suddenly an advertisement pops up as a relation to your shopping. Google AdWords is a typical PPC model, in which the company will only pay when a customer clicks on their ad and lands on the company’s website. The range of money spent on PPC can be from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands a month just on PPC as it works.

πŸ’Ž--- Digital Marketing platforms that can be used ---πŸ’Ž

There is a plethora of digital marketing platforms that can be utilized. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. Instagram would be my first choice, as it is a platform that many students, young adults, and millennials tend to have on their smartphones. Instagram has gone through many updates, each one better than the last one, and digital marketing has flourished on it as well. For example, Instagram has the “Shop” icon, which enables users to browse through items and merchandise on sale, tailored to their Instagram content. Many small businesses tend to use Instagram as a way of expanding and promoting themselves. Apart from that, Instagram also provides the option to convert a private or public account into a business account, which comes with weekly and monthly updates on viewers and likes for posts.

Next, I will explain a tad more about Blogger. How is blogging site considered a digital marketing platform? That is because it allows Pay-per-click advertising to run, usually through Google AdSense. Many famous bloggers and influencers that use blogs to share their journeys on skincare, travelling, social work, and the likes, tend to have a loyal mass audience. Therefore, if the blogger recommends a product or service, their audiences are more than likely to try it. There are also options for the blogger to include hyperlinks and hypertexts in their blog post which would directly reroute their readers to merchandise stores. Therefore, digital marketing can indeed exist on a blogging platform such as Blogger.

Moving on, we have Twitter, an explosive social media platform that shares and reshares news in the here and now. Twitter dubs their sharing and resharing options and ‘tweet’ and ‘retweet.’ There is also another important option of note known simply as a ‘thread’ which is a list of tweets connected to one another, usually used to spread information and awareness on a certain topic. Twitter utilizes hashtags, and they even have a ‘Trending’ section, that makes it a whole lot easier for consumers to dive into the digital world. Many advertisers use Twitter for Digital Marketing as it is a popular social media platform, and many still get their news from Twitter. Twitter enables the option for businesses to schedule their tweets ahead of time, and directly engage with their followers. However, businesses should know their own suitable timings and periods to reach the largest possible audience.

Moreover, Reddit is most definitely the craze these days. It may be skewed on the younger side, but it is still greatly beneficial. Reddit prides itself on its sense of community through its subreddits, which are pages for about anything. However, Reddit is most definitely not antibusiness, as it has its own advertising partners. Subreddits for financial advice, for instance, will have Redditors posting questions and answers, as well as have online discussions, which can be upvoted and downvoted. Although Reddit seems to be a combination of a social media platform and a Forum, it most definitely has its own niches when it comes to marketing. The users in Reddit do not take kindly to self-promotion, but if it is beneficial to the community, others will show their support. And that is how businesses build their marketing strategy, by curating their content to their community in Reddit. For example, a business should only advertise their sports products and services only on subreddits that allows discussion and promotion on sporting activities and services.

Finally, LinkedIn is a great platform to market oneself to prospective employers as well as for clients. Many working professionals use LinkedIn to highlight their strengths, each in their respective fields, such as Accounting, Marketing and even Entrepreneurship, and the list is not exhaustive. To be successful in marketing oneself, said person needs to use the right keywords that can attract attention from others. Using simple but effective words and phrases will make one stand out, and these words and phrases differ from field to field. Besides that, users on LinkedIn get to market themselves by marketing other items. If users were to share posts, images and statistics related to their fields, as well as have catchy headlines for articles, others that careen through their profiles will be even more intrigued, thus marketing oneself even further. LinkedIn has a community group feature which also allows for discussions. By participating in group discussions, one would further market themselves by providing coherent and concise information and solutions to problems. As always, first impressions are crucial, so having a neat profile and cover photo will go a long way, as well as the information one chooses to portray oneself, in not so many words.

I hope that some of my research has borne fruit and has been a light and easy read for you. Sometimes, it’s not easy, having to make time to write this blog weekly during an extremely busy period. I make it happen nonetheless, and thank you, dear readers, for continuously reading and supporting me :3
