Blog Entry Week 8 - Poetry on Pointe~

๐Ÿ’“ Blog Entry Week 8 ๐Ÿ’˜

Welcome back! After a short hiatus, I’m back brimming with energy to showcase more of me~ So far on my blog, I’ve covered topics on film reviews such as Encanto, and also on my skincare journey, as well as my STPM experience, and more. For this posting, I feel that it would be a great opportunity to share my very own poems and flash fiction which I have made! I was thinking about the risk of my work being used as someone else’s, and I still do worry a little. However, you know who you are, and you should also know what’s within the moral boundaries of society and etiquette. Anyway, today I shall be showcasing two poems that I composed. Enjoy!

Freedom

As soft music plays,
and leaves fall,
just know, Autumn will always wait for you.

The season of Fall is within you,
bursting anew with deadly life,
creating worlds by hand from pumpkins.

Feel the texture of the white sand
beneath your feet.
Gaze at the longing waves calling
out your name.
Smell the scent of the ocean life
around you, but now, go deeper.

Go deeper until you swim alongside
schools of fish and bales of turtles,
until you feel the warmth of love
the ocean envelops you within.

Rise! sending you up into the clouds,
gliding with creatures of the sky, places
you and I can now call home.
Spread your wings and fly, love,
fly because you can,
to freedom.

Brown Skin

Brown skin.
I’m talking about this brown skin.
The same brown skin that
marks me as distinct, and less worthy.
The same brown skin that is denied opportunities.
The same brown skin that is not loved by society and oh so
constantly disrespected.

But,

I think this brown skin is beautiful,
so shiny and full of melanin, you could never
imagine the work and effort to create us,
the work and effort our ancestors sold in,
only to be sold out.

Over the years, our eyes casts shadows
long after the outright lynching and mugging is gone,
leaving room for hate and to discriminate.

Over the years, we recognize this sun-kissed skin,
we recognize the beauty within, the beauty that
spans all over these bodies.
And so, we fought for our place at this table,
and that has made us stronger than you ever will be.

‘Brown Skin’ and ‘Freedom’ are poems that I composed during troubling times, so I hope that you, dear reader, get to feel these unwavering emotions that flow through these poems~ That is all for this week, and the next week there shall be more poems! See you~
